Alternate World City Purchase Manga Recap – chapter#01

Our main character lived a reclusive life as an otaku marked by squalor. However, a sudden surge of electricity and intense pain bestowed upon him the ability to travel between Earth and an alternate world. In this new realm, Baron Carter and his son aimed to sell him a city, but even selling his kidneys wouldn’t make it financially feasible. Dismissing it as a falsehood, he brushed it aside. Little did he know, Baron Carter’s desire for just five glasses hinted at his wish to move to a larger city, retire, and leave everything behind. Our protagonist, frugally eyeing the opportunity to acquire a city, also contemplated securing a wealthy, fair-skinned, and beautiful woman as his wife. Yet, could there be a hidden conspiracy within the apparent wealth, perhaps something worth killing for? In the other world, east of the Forbidden Mountain Range, a desolate land plagued by bone-chilling winds, ice as unyielding as iron, and millennium-old blizzards, the inhabitants endured a period deemed dark and ruthless. Nobility treated rampant murders as a game where the strong preyed on the weak, and survival favored only the strongest.

Our protagonist, Leo Fung, had crossed into this enigmatic realm more than a month ago. Despite amassing wealth through trading between Earth and the other world, he found himself without a place to call home. Now, he set out to find a temporary abode. Entering a tavern, Leo Fung, while sipping his drink, inquired of the shopkeeper whether she would consider selling the establishment to him. Although taken aback, she hotly questioned his sanity for wanting to purchase a completely abandoned establishment. He clarified his intention to secure a place to live and pointed out the potential for profit in opening an inn in such a remote location. Undeterred, he persisted, offering a substantial sum of money. Despite his efforts, the shopkeeper remained resolute, adamantly stating that the tavern was not for sale. Out of the blue, a voice directed him to consider buying a city if he possessed substantial wealth. Startled and amazed, he turned around to find Baron Carter and his son Fez standing there. Recalling Baron Carter as his former patron and the city lord of Xiyang, Leo Fung, aware of the man’s wealth, couldn’t fathom why he would want to sell a city. Puzzled, he questioned Baron Carter about the decision to part with his lifeblood, the city. With a sigh, Baron Carter explained that age was catching up with him and the younger generation didn’t meet his expectations.

Therefore, he desired to sell his domain, move to a larger city, retire, and put it all behind him. Leo Fung, wearing an irritated expression, cynically labeled him a cunning fox but proceeded to inquire about the city’s price. In an unexpected turn, the gazes of both Baron Carter and his son met, and with a sinister smile, he disclosed that he sought only 100 gold coins for the city. Hearing this, Leo Fung went into a state of disbelief and angrily questioned if he had lost his mind. One hundred gold coins represented a substantial sum equivalent to 4 million sheep, 500,000 cattle, and enough to sustain three generations comfortably, deeming it overly expensive. Baron Carter, in an attempt to sweeten the deal, also extended an offer of a noble title to Leo Fung. However, he declined the proposition. Suddenly, Fez aimed his sword at Leo Fung’s neck, questioning his audacity to refuse.

He argued that Leo Fung should consider it an honor that Baron Carter was willing to sell the city to him. Anxiety gripping him, Leo Fung asked if they were compelling him to make the purchase, but Baron Carter intervened, emphasizing the importance of harmony in wealth and proposed discussing a more agreeable price. He queried Leo Fung on the amount of gold coins he deemed appropriate. However, Leo Fung didn’t possess even 30 gold coins, let alone 100. Surprisingly, Baron Carter agreed to sell the city for as low as 30 gold coins, leaving Leo Fung in disbelief, unable to fathom that Baron Carter would part with his city for such a modest sum.
