Senior Social Worker :
The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is looking for an experienced and compassionate Senior Clinical Social Worker to join the VA Augusta Health Care System in Augusta, Georgia. This advanced-level position is part of the Mental Health Service and requires a licensed professional skilled in delivering high-quality, evidence-based social work services to Veterans and their families. In this role, you will work autonomously, providing a wide range of psychosocial and case management services that address biological, psychological, social, and environmental needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Evidence-Based Therapy: Conduct individual and group therapies grounded in evidence-based practices, tailored to meet the diverse needs of Veterans.
- Collaborative Decision-Making: Engage Veterans in a shared decision-making model to assess treatment modalities that align with their unique cultural, psychological, and personal goals, strengths, and abilities.
- Clinical Documentation: Accurately document treatment plans, responses, and outcomes using both clinical judgment and standardized assessment tools.
- Treatment Planning: Develop, implement, and routinely update individualized psychotherapeutic treatment plans for each patient, ensuring clinical reminders are promptly addressed.
- Virtual and In-Person Service Delivery: Provide services to Veterans through both in-person sessions and video technology, adapting to the varied needs of the population served.
- Consultation and Training: Act as a clinical consultant for other medical staff, assisting in the psychological assessment and treatment planning for their patients. Provide supervision to health profession trainees to foster their professional growth.
- Professional Development and Committee Work: Actively engage in Mental Health Service Line meetings, facility-wide initiatives, and professional development activities. Serve on VA committees or task forces at local, VISN, or national levels, supporting VA’s mission and strategic goals.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency and quality of services provided to Veterans.
- Community and Professional Engagement: Represent the VA in community activities, collaborate with external organizations, and participate in professional groups at the local, state, and national levels.
- Other Responsibilities: Perform additional duties as assigned, consistent with the position’s scope and responsibilities.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay: Competitive salary with regular increases.

Minimum Requirements
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Selective Service: Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.

- Background Screening: Required to complete a background investigation and pass a pre-employment physical.
- Vaccination Requirements: Compliance with the seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccination programs is mandatory for VHA healthcare personnel.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in social work from an accredited school (as verified by the Council on Social Work Education, CSWE).
- Licensure: Licensed or certified at an advanced level to practice independently in social work.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years post-clinical licensure experience in social work. Preferred candidates will have experience in clinical supervision and case management, particularly with mental health patients.
Grade Level: GS-12
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Clinical Expertise: Ability to apply specialized treatment interventions in therapy, case management, and consultation settings.
- Complex Assessment and Diagnosis: Proficiency in using complex differential diagnosis and treatment planning within the scope of clinical privileges.
- Evaluation Methods: Skilled in developing and implementing assessment tools to measure social work practice effectiveness, utilizing outcome evaluations to enhance care.
- Consultation Proficiency: Provides specialized consultation to colleagues and trainees, demonstrating effective social work practices.
- Policy Development: Ability to contribute to clinical knowledge by writing policies and guidelines for service delivery areas.
