Position Overview

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is seeking a qualified Psychiatrist to join the VISN 06 TeleMental Health Hub within the Mental Health Service Line. This position is fully virtual, allowing you to deliver comprehensive mental health care to veterans using cutting-edge telehealth technology. It is part of the VA’s mission to provide high-quality mental health services to those who have served our nation, focusing on innovative, patient-centered approaches to care.

This role primarily involves outpatient care but may include additional psychiatric settings such as residential substance abuse programs, PTSD residential programs, and psychiatric consultation for medical-surgical wards. The TeleMental Health Hub is an interdisciplinary team comprising psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.


Key Responsibilities

Psychiatrists in this position will:

  1. Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluations
    • Conduct evaluations for a diverse patient population covering the full range of DSM-5 diagnoses.
    • Assess patients’ needs, develop collaborative care plans, and provide evidence-based mental health care.
  2. Therapeutic Interventions
    • Provide a wide array of treatments, including diagnostic assessments, medication management, psychotherapy, and crisis intervention.
    • Conduct suicide risk assessments and deliver tailored care to meet patients’ individual needs.
  3. Telehealth Expertise
    • Deliver care through advanced telehealth platforms, including Veterans Video Connect (VVC) and Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT), ensuring accessibility to patients in remote locations.
  4. Interdisciplinary Collaboration
    • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to provide subject matter expertise and enhance patient care coordination.
    • Work with a team comprising physicians, advanced practice nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, social workers, and nurses.
  5. Clinical Compliance and Documentation
    • Ensure all practices align with The Joint Commission (TJC), CARF, HIPAA, and VA policies.
    • Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical record documentation to support quality care.
  6. Education and Training
    • Provide educational experiences to psychiatry residents and trainees from various disciplines, including medical students and psychology/social work interns.
    • Teach and mentor in line with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards.
  7. On-Call Services
    • Provide emergency psychiatric interventions and on-call services as necessary to support veterans in crisis.
  8. Other Duties as Assigned
    • Engage in activities essential for maintaining patient care and operational effectiveness within the Mental Health Service Line.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  1. Education:
    • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited medical or osteopathic school.
    • Foreign medical graduates must meet Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification standards.
  2. Licensure and Certification:
    • Possess a current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
    • Completion of residency training in psychiatry, approved by the ACGME or American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  3. Proficiency in English:
    • Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English.
  4. Preferred Experience:
    • Experience with telehealth and outpatient VA settings is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

The role may involve periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting. The incumbent must be capable of performing these activities without restriction.
