AI down? ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and other AI platforms suffer system outage

It remains unclear what has resulted in the simultaneous failure of the platforms

What has happened to all the AI platforms? An unknown glitch has affected the activity of most of the chatbots based on generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) on Tuesday, led by OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

Although they have not yet reached the status of critical services such as a search engine, email or an instant messaging application, the scope of use of AI platforms is on a steady rise, for private use, work or studies.

However, according to user reports and Calcalist testing, all the popular services are suffering from a system outage on Tuesday whose cause is unknown. As of the time of writing, it is not possible to use the popular ChatGPT and Gemini. ChatGPT displays a mostly blank chat screen, except for the prompt input line, which is non-functional. Gemini displays an error message, but works intermittently.

Smaller chatbots like Perplexity and Claude are also down or only working intermittently, showing an error message.

Chatgpt, Gemini and other AI assistant are not working.

After an outage took down OpenAI’s ChatGPT service for a few hours during Tuesday’s early hours, the service experienced another major outage during the daytime in the US. “ChatGPT is unavailable for some users,” said OpenAI in its status message. “We are currently investigating this issue.” The second round of issues started at around 10:30AM ET, with thousands of reports of issues showing up on Downdetector.

Many users of the ChatGPT mobile apps and the web service were not seeing replies; however, at about 1:17PM ET, OpenAI confirmed the issue was resolved.
