The duties and responsibilities for this position may vary based on the grade level of the role. Key responsibilities include:
- Computer System Management Support: Offer comprehensive support for computer systems, ensuring optimal operation and smooth performance.
- Planning and Implementation: Assist in planning and executing hardware and software upgrades while adhering to proper security protocols.
- User Account Oversight: Manage and monitor user accounts, ensuring the secure and efficient flow of data.
- Performance Testing: Conduct evaluations to determine the performance and relevance of data processing equipment and techniques. Prepare detailed reports based on these evaluations.
Requirements and Conditions of Employment
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for this position:
- U.S. Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Selective Service Registration: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service (see Selective Service System).
- Salary Variations: Total salary may vary based on the location of the position.

Basic Qualification Standards
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet one of the following basic educational or experiential criteria:
- Professional Engineering Degree: The degree must be accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or include key coursework in engineering sciences such as statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and more.
- Education and Experience Combination: College-level education and technical experience demonstrating a thorough knowledge of physical and mathematical sciences, along with an understanding of engineering sciences and their practical applications. Adequacy can be demonstrated through:
- Professional Registration: Current registration as a professional engineer.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT): Successful completion of the EIT exam or equivalent.
- Specified Academic Courses: Completion of at least 60 semester hours in relevant sciences and engineering courses.
- Related Curriculum: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant professional field (e.g., physics, chemistry, mathematics) with at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
Specialized Experience
Candidates must demonstrate specialized experience for specific grade levels:
- GS-12: One year of experience equivalent to GS-11, including management of IT systems and programs for complex projects.
- GS-13: One year of experience equivalent to GS-12, involving detailed technical reporting, identifying future technology needs, and presenting new concepts.
- GS-14: One year of experience equivalent to GS-13, encompassing branch-level planning and management with integrated objectives.
- GS-15: One year of experience equivalent to GS-14, providing technical leadership and effectively engaging with high-level officials and experts.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
- Policies, theories, and principles of computer engineering.
- Automated data processing systems and measurement processes.
- Analytical ability to evaluate and apply regulations in various scenarios.
- Organizational and coordination skills across engineering disciplines.
- Effective communication, both verbal and written.
Additional Considerations
- Part-Time or Volunteer Experience: Relevant unpaid or part-time work will be credited.
- Education Credentials: Candidates relying on education must submit transcripts, which may be verified prior to appointment.
- Foreign Education: Candidates with foreign degrees must provide proof of equivalency to U.S. educational standards.
