About the Role
The LA County Board of Supervisors has declared a local state of emergency for homelessness. In response, we are expanding our efforts in areas such as housing, mental health, and substance use. Join us at the Department of Mental Health to make a difference as we address these critical issues for LA County residents.
Position: Emergency Intermediate Typist Clerk
Employment Period: Initial 90-day appointment with the potential for permanent placement based on performance.
Essential Job Functions
- Type abstracts of judgment, executive notices, and similar documents with accuracy.
- Prepare complex charts, forms, and statistical documents.
- Process documents following specific procedures, including property descriptions, court records, and legal paperwork.
- Assist the public by answering questions and providing information about forms, procedures, and legal documents.
- Keep specialized records requiring judgment in data selection.
- Maintain records for processes divided among multiple personnel.
- Retrieve records and data, making informed decisions in material selection.
- Draft correspondence by selecting necessary data for responses.
- Supervise minor tasks handled by other staff.
- Operate office equipment such as calculators and computers as needed.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience:
- Six months of full-time office clerical experience involving typing within LA County service, OR
- One year of full-time office clerical experience involving typing outside of County service, OR
- A certificate or Associate of Arts degree in clerical procedures or office administration from an accredited college.
- Typing Proficiency: Ability to type at a minimum of 40 net words per minute.
Physical Class
Class II – Light: Requires occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds) and some bending, stooping, or squatting.
Examination Content
Applicants must pass a typing test administered by LA County or provide a valid typing certificate. A performance assessment will be conducted after the initial 90-day appointment to determine eligibility for permanent placement.
