Technology Development Engineer Job:

Position Overview

As a Technology Development Engineer with the CIA’s Directorate of Science and Technology (DS&T), you’ll play an essential role in advancing the CIA’s technical capabilities in support of foreign intelligence collection. This role is ideal for engineers and scientists who are passionate about solving complex technical challenges and applying innovative technology in new and impactful ways. As a member of the DS&T, you’ll work alongside technical experts to research, design, and implement engineering solutions that directly support the CIA’s mission to collect and analyze foreign intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Apply engineering and scientific expertise to create solutions that enhance intelligence-collection capabilities.
  • Lead and participate in in-house, end-to-end development programs, from initial concept through deployment.
  • Collaborate across the Intelligence Community and with partners on integrated technology solutions that support foreign intelligence collection.
  • Adapt to dynamic requirements and develop new skills in pace with technological advances.
  • Develop and document systems engineering artifacts, prototype designs, and final engineering solutions.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be physically located in the U.S. or one of its territories at the time of resume submission through MyLINK.
  • U.S. citizenship required, along with Selective Service registration (if applicable).
  • Willingness to relocate to the Washington, D.C. area.
  • Completion of a thorough medical and psychological examination, a polygraph interview, and a comprehensive background investigation is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to pass a background investigation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical expertise in electrical and/or computer engineering, demonstrated through hands-on design and fabrication experience.
  • Proficiency in systems engineering, including the ability to produce circuit schematics, design layouts, and prototype solutions.
  • Knowledge in electronics, microelectronics, and radio frequency (RF) design, including experience in using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Familiarity with engineering tools and software such as GitHub, Altium for printed circuit board design, Python, MATLAB, and FPGA programming.
  • Strong communication, organization, and planning skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team.

Additional Preferred Expertise:

  • Prototype electronics design, soldering, circuit testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with embedded firmware and microcontroller programming (e.g., MSP430, PIC, ARM).
  • An advanced degree, professional certification, or comparable experience in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related disciplines is highly valued.
