ENGINEER/SCIENTIST JOB

Job Summary

This role involves supporting the technical execution of Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) weapon system software sustainment across Navy platforms like Zumwalt-class destroyers and Virginia-class submarines.

Key Duties

  1. Technical Support: Provide technical support for CPS weapon system software sustainment, including testing and tactical software, for use on Zumwalt-class destroyers and Virginia-class submarines.
  2. Coordination: Assist the CPS Lead Software Sustainment Engineer with daily coordination within Dahlgren, across the Software Product Center (SPC), and with prime contractors.
  3. Planning: Develop a Software Support Activity Plan that aligns with fielding schedules, funding, environment, equipment, and material needs.
  4. Assessment and Recommendations: Evaluate software development plans and architecture, recommending necessary support activities.
  5. Software Maintenance: Enhance and maintain CPS software products.
  6. Support Agreement: Facilitate development and acceptance of a support agreement for the CPS Program at NSWCDD.
  7. Working Group Participation: Engage in ISEA/Sustainment Working Groups with other Warfare Centers.
  8. Collaboration: Coordinate with other Warfare Centers, Program Offices, industry partners, and NSWCDD departments.
  9. Budgeting Input: Provide input to SPC4 on sustainment activities for budget considerations.

  • Drug Testing: Pre-employment drug testing required, with potential random testing.
  • Travel: Travel may be required, including to remote and isolated sites, and on military or commercial aircraft for extended periods.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the ND-03 (GS-09/11) pay band, including work in design, development, testing, evaluation, integration, or sustainment of software for systems engineering projects.

Education Requirements

Specific educational requirements vary by engineering discipline and are outlined by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for relevant series, including:

  1. Engineering (0801/0830/0850/0854/0855/0861): Requires a degree in engineering or equivalent education with specified coursework in engineering science and physics.
  2. Operations Research (1515): Requires a degree in operations research or a related field, with substantial coursework in operations research, mathematics, and statistics.
  3. Mathematics (1520): Requires a degree in mathematics or a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in mathematics.
  4. Computer Science (1550): Requires a degree in computer science or a related field, with a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science coursework, including calculus.
